Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

2013-14 AIPS Book Prize

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies is soliciting books (single authored monographs, no edited volumes) published during the last three years, or nearly published books (galleys must be available) for the annual AIPS book prize.

Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan

We are extremely proud to announce that after a 5 year hiatus the Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan's (BULPIP-AIPS) is back. Jointly administered by the America Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Center for South Asia Studies (CSAS) at the University of California at Berkeley, the program will be based in Lahore with language instruction offered at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) campus.

AIPS 2014-15 Short-Term Fellows Awarded

Congratulations to the recipients of AIPS's fourth round of awardees for Short-Term Fellowships!

  • Dr. Christopher Candland, Associate Professor at Wellesley College, awarded 1 month in Islamabad and Lahore
  • Ms. Sayyeda Zehra Razvi, Associate Instructor at University of California Davis, awarded 2 months in Lahore, Pakistan

2014-15 AIPS Fellowship Applications Now Open!

AIPS is now accepting applications for 2014 Short-Term and 2014-15 Long-Term Fellowships! The Deadline for both applications is: January 1, 2014.

Balochistan Archives

Director of Balochistan Archives, Hafeez Jamali, is a past AIPS fellow and current PhD student at UT Austin. Balochistan Archives is an executive agency of the Government of Balochistan that serves as the main repository for official records and documents of historical significance.
