Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Call for Submission - 2017-18 S.S. Pirzada Dissertation Prize on Pakistan!!

AIPS parterner institution, the Institute for South Asia Studies, and the Berkeley Pakistan Initiative are delighted to announce the inaugural S. S. Pirzada Dissertation Prize for 2017-18. They invite submission of the dissertations on Pakistan (or the region that is now Pakistan) in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Visual & Fine Arts, Law, and Public Health. 

Result of the AIPS Presidential elections!!

The results of the AIPS Presidential elections is out. Farhat Haq has been elected to a 3-year term as the President of AIPS. Her term of office is October 1, 2017 - Sept 30, 2020.

Please join us in congratulating Farhat Haq and in thanking both her and Iftikar Dadi for their commitment to AIPS and for their willingness to serve.  In addition, let's thank the nominating committee: Matt Cook (chair), Farina Mir, and David Gilmartin, for assembling such a strong ballot for consideration.

AIPS Co-sponsored Transforming your Dissertation into a Book Workshop!!

AIPS, AIIS and other South Asian organizations devoted to the study of South Asia are pleased to annouce the '2017 Transforming your Dissertation into a Book Workshop' which will be held on October 25-26, 2017 in conjuction with the 46th Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison, WI. This workshop (co)sponsored by like-minded South Asian organizations aims to help a select number of recent PhDs re-vision their doctoral dissertations as books.
